Letter from Africa: Investors should look beyond region’s challenges

I like Africa. I even love Africa and I have never regretted going there for much longer than a decade for business. That said, I know what I am doing and I also know what I am dealing with. I know African red tape, overblown expectations, underdevelopment, and the endless time spent in stuffy ministries to meet with the right person. Expect lots of stuff to go wrong and don’t be in a hurry. Time has a different value in Africa than it has anywhere else. It’s a hard place and some countries are really on the torturous side. To me, they were always the most fun. But not everyone takes it this way.
