Letter from Africa: Region poised for a gas revolution

When I looked at Africa for the first time as a source of gas, it was described as a gas province with a drop of oil on top. Still, considering Africa’s size and obvious hydrocarbon richness, its gas reality today is measly. Most gas produced and exported is converted into LNG. Pipelines are a challenge on a continent where people drill holes into them to fill their buckets. Also, gas should play a massive role in the domestic energy mix of many hydrocarbon producers when in fact it’s a sideshow. There is no painful penalty for flaring, and gas master plans won’t change that. Corruption kills the last incentive to do anything there. Africa must clean up its act before it can dream of Gasland. https://www.pemedianetwork.com/petroleum-economist/articles/gas-lng/2024/letter-from-africa-region-poised-for-a-gas-revolution/?oly_enc_id=0139F9727701B5U
