LNG Bunkering Standards Could Help Fast-track Liquid Hydrogen Bunkering

LNG bunkering standards won’t help anything to do with hydrogen very much. LNG is non-corrosive. ´Hydrogen is very corrosive. LNG does not make its container brittle – hydrogen does that with almost anything. LNG won’t diffundate through the container wall – hydrogen will do that which means that there is imminent danger of explosion. LNG has a rather slow burn speed which makes explosions very hard to get. Hydrogen will explode very easily. Also, hydrogen would have to be liquefied and hence would be a lot colder than LNG. Plus, we have more than half a century of industrial best practices in LNG. In hydrogen we have nothing. Hydrogen is nasty stuff and very dangerous. LNG has one of the best safety records of any energy source.
