LNG-fuelled vessels accelerate to 6% of the global fleet

Oceangoing vessels serve for many decades before they are scrapped. Once they are built it’s hard if not impossible to retrofit their propulsion systems. So change comes very, very slowly to blue water shipping. LNG as a fuel for oceangoing ships has become a reality over the last 10 years. In 2013 I chatted with an executive from one of the big cruise ship lines. He told me that LNG is a risky prospect as it’s so new. Now this same person tells me that not doing LNG is risky. How things change. 6% is great by those standards.
