Longer maritime routes mean more fuel consumed in shipping following Red Sea attacks

Yes, it leads to longer routes and will, in time, also lead to new practices in international shipping. Ships will become robots without a crew with a rump crew coming on board only when they approach a harbor or at susceptible points on the route and most of that will be resolved with the right kind of telemetry. Rolls Royce has run far-reaching tests on the autonomous ship of the future already. Something else will happen way more immediately. The world will deglobalize so the total tonnage of stuff being sent over the waves will shrink. Countries will try to reindustrialize.
