Mozambique and LNG projects threatened by Islamist extremists
That might be the death spell for the LNG projects in Mozambique. People don’t have a good idea of how vast distances are. The insurgents are as far away from the capital Maputo as Kyiv is from London. The north of Mozambique is far more like the Swahili Tanzanians than the Portuguese inclined power elite in Maputo. But what killed the projects were not the insurgents. It was a combination of impossible expectations and market developments. They will have to start from scratch and talk to the locals or walk away.
