Namibia to rival Guyana as world’s newest oil and gas hotspot following massive offshore discoveries

It is the oldest story in the oil book. Namibia has been a very high potential for the upstream oil world for more decades than I am alive and I am pushing retirement. Pretty much anyone who sunk his teeth there has also sunk a lot of money to write it off at some point in time. No reason that some new tech or other innovation cannot unlock what could not be done commercially before but I would grit my teeth and delay any jubilation for the moment when everything is done and dusted. And Namibia should not try to spend money it does not already have. It might shovel a black hole.

It’s still early days for Namibia, and none of the discoveries in its waters have yet been declared commercially viable. But TotalEnergies aims to approve its first development at the Venus field later this year,…
