Net Metering Rethink: Rooftop Solar in Trouble (a hidden subsidy in addition to ITC)
I have said for years that current rules for feeding sur-production from solar back into the grid and still taking from the grid to top up the shortfall is a subsidy. In an ideal world, if you want to run your rooftop solar while enjoying stable electricity, you should be forced to store your sur-electricity in whatever way you deem fit but without using the grid. And if you do so, you should pay for the privilege because when you don’t need the juice, chances are no one else needs it.
