New Japan PM Pledges to Match China’s Zero Carbon 2050 Initiative

Looks like Japan has learned some lessons from China. Announce a very ambitious target thats far enough in the future that the older ones among us won’t see it anymore. Do exactly nothing of importance expect some very well-publicized marketing stunts to work towards reaching the target – whatever that is. Build coal plants to cover basic electricity needs. Hammer all other nations with the virtue that has been signaled and that they should take immediate action to decarbonize. Watch other nations’ industries (your competitors) falter.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
