New Mexico slashes routine gas flaring allowances

As much as I understand that we need to cut a new venture (and thats what shale is) some slack, that can’t go on forever. Shale has matured enough for flaring to be gone and the fact that flaring has not yet disappeared from the shale patch is a disgrace. It’s Natural Gas thats being flared here and I am sure that there were quite a few in Texas some weeks ago that would have appreciated this gas in their heaters. It’s a resource – the closed season is over.

New Mexico, home to the most prized portion of the Permian basin shale formation, became the latest state to impose stricter rules to combat the flaring and venting of natural gas.
