Nigeria gasps for new LNG investments
Nigeria is not in a very enviable position. It has the potential to become one of the very big LNG producers as it has the gas base and needs to rein in some of the most excessive flaring, but it’s stuck in limbo. It’s on the wrong side of Africa for the premium Asian markets. It’s on the same oceanic basin with US producers that pick off any upside that opens up in this basin and its notoriously difficult investment climate deflates any project real quick. They would need to develop new markets such as LNG as a fuel or develop their own economy with the gas (and LNG) they produce but a powerful domestic diesel lobby nips that in the bud. Sad …
