Nigeria struggles to realise gas potential
Nigeria needs less giant mega projects and more small scale entrepreneurial style local use projects. The problem is that when it’s not big a shiny, nobody will give a damn. Also, there are lots of established interests in the country that would not like a functioning Natural gas industry. Just imagine all those diesel sellers and their distribution networks. They are cash cows. You don’t want to slaughter those. And then it’s impossible to get the gas. They flare it so its trash – just ask someone who flares to give you the gas for a penny. that’s better than what he has now but suddenly he wants in on the action and the lions share but none of the work or risk. It’s a gambler’s mentality and this kills a lot of initiative.
Africa’s biggest economy is set to expand gas exports but domestic distribution remains a trickier proposition
