I was often asked what long-term LNG supply agreements are good for if everything can be sourced on the spot market. Well, maybe to be sure you get the LNG when you need it. Always gaming the market also makes you a receiver of the gaming of others when the market turns against you. Sometimes you just need the molecules. Long-term agreements often last for 20 years. The parties have an interest to be nice to each other as during such a long time, there is plenty of opportunity for payback. You might just find your new best friend – see it that way.
