Qatar positioned to risk an LNG battle that could mimic oil’s plunge
Qatar still is the lowest cost LNG producer out there. Today’s prices sue are a problem even to them but when Qatar hurts, everyone else should be bleeding like an open artery. The best longterm strategy Qatar could take is to help develop new markets for LNG. And those need to be fast markets as the overhang is crushing and becoming bigger still. The fastest growth potential is fuel for long-distance trucking. European trucking consumes way more than the equivalent of the world’s LNG production. And trucks are replaced way more often than ships. But this one needs people on the ground that can play the game whee the market is. Thats not posh meetings in hotel lobbies but on the ground business development. Thats the challenge.
