Qatar’s new LNG expansion plans to squeeze out US, other rivals

Will Qatar make a splash with its new expansions? No doubt. But they won’t be able to kill their rivals any more than OPEC was able to kill shale. Qatar has its one supergiant field and although the North Dome still has a lot of oomph in it, it still is a finite resource. Everything is, but Qatar is tiny so the room for maneuver, big as it appears at the moment, will shrink. Also, Qatar supports some very unhealthy players in the Middle East which will eventually come back to bite it. And lastly, the issues in the Red Sea are not good news as it makes reaching their European markets much more expensive for them. Europe is not only a market for them. It’s the vital flexibility option.
