Russia Says It Damaged Facilities at Ukraine Gas Storage Site

Does this hurt Ukraine? No doubt. But winter fades out right now and whatever pain comes through those strikes will go away with it. Besides, Ukraine is not an energy exporter. It does not make money with it – not in a big way. But that is the Achilles heel of Russia. Their energy infrastructure is their lifeline and it will take decades to rebuild it if it will ever be rebuilt. One thing even the so-called experts often ignore is that the energy export miracle of Russia was largely a leftover from the Soviet Union. Then, cost did not matter. Politics mattered. And once it’s there you squeeze it for what it’s worth – until it’s empty or broken. In Russia, both might strike at the same time.
