Saudi Neom green ammonia project reaches FID

A solution in search of a problem. The ammonia will be used for fertilizer production and that’s its saving grace. As an energy carrier it’s unsuited as it’s not a very friendly substance and cannot safely be employed in a non-protected environment. Splitting it up into hydrogen and nitrogen at the destination puts another layer of complexity and cost on it that its already heavily battered and subsidy-sustained finances can ill afford. Ammonia is a fad that will go away and I am looking forward to a failed industry project in Saudi Arabia. But as it’s close to Neom, its failure will disappear before the colossal failure Neom promises to become.
