Senate panel to vote next week on sanctions on Russia-to-Germany gas pipeline
Europeans, and especially Germans are extremely suspicious about US motives here. If the US wants to reduce Russias influence here, they should tread a little lighter as the current showdown favors the Russians. If the US really does care about Europe’s energy security, it should make sure that Europe gets all energy it can get as cheaply as it can. Preventing one more gas pipeline into Europe does nothing to achieve that objective. Let them have their pipeline and see how that goes. The US is in a good position to standby and watch anyhow. Why the fuss?
A U.S. Senate committee is due to vote next week on a bill that would slap sanctions on companies and individuals involved in building the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline from Russia to Germany that the Trump administration says would strengthen Moscow’s economic grip on Europe.
