Sinopec announces major shale oil discovery in eastern China

China’s shale fields tend to be on the deep side, which also means they are a bit ore challenging to explore and produce. On the other side, China really needs the oil as it is very dependent on imports, which makes the country fragile. So they will do whatever needs to be done to make this work. But shale also needs very fingerprinted innovation. No two shale fields are alike, and the expertise of those running the rigs is at least as important, if not more so, than the tech alone. This experience cannot be taught at a university. It requires Fingerspitzengefühl by those working the rig. Not the type of experience thats fostered in a top-heavy command economy.
