Suriname poised to join upstream elite
This must be the most exciting patch of upstream acreage on the planet right now but make no mistake, there are still many such patches hidden away in the Earth’s crust. To countries such as Guyana and Suriname, hitherto dirt poor, this is manna from the heavens. Schools, hospitals, services for its people, streets, lights, and what more. But if one looks up other oil-producing countries, here is often very little of that. Because the money of oil also brings the ghosts of corruption, autocracy, and unrest. There are a few success stories and many failures. Let’s hope that this time, success will be what we are looking at.
