Texas Oil Regulator Shifts Stance on Gas Flaring
I know its a hard situation for many drillers but accepting flaring at this scale is not in the cards for long. Flare gas is not the Natural Gas that you burn in your kitchen stove. It’s full of nasty contaminants that would be refined out before use as a product but not when flared. Texas should enact UIOLI legislation – if you don’t use it you must allow someone else on your premises who will take it off your hand. Having third parties stomping around on your drill site might be a bigger deterrent than a financial penalty and urge flares to take decisive action. This gas belongs into a vehicle tank – not onto a flare tip.
