The dirtiest fossil fuel is on the back foot
The Economist is firmly in the alarmist camp – no two ways about it. And as such, they prefer to live in a dream world rather than taking reality into account. Coal goes down in some of the developed world. In Europe its policies which drive out coal at great cost to its economies, but in North America, it’s shale gas. And Asia binges the black stuff. Even Japan makes grand announcements but their coal consumption is rising. Why don’t we call the BS? Trump was right – the Paris Agreements are nothing but a concrete shoe on Europe and America’s economies. Asia does not intend to saddle their economies with that.
