The Great Energy Non-Transition
When I was a schoolkid, I learned that millions of years ago, biological organisms died, sunk to the seafloor, was covered by mud, and then was compressed and became the oil and gas we lift today. The only fuel where I am fairly certain that it is the result of ancient biomatter is coal. But there are geological processes at work within the planet that make me have big doubts on the fossil origins of oil and also fairly certain that Natural Gas is not the result of the decomposition of fossil organisms. Looks like we need to update our terminology. Because Natural Gas is the most powerful factor in any transition away from ??fossil?? fuels.
