The Manhattan Contrarian Energy Storage Paper Has Arrived!

A couple of days ago I sat with two friends. One of them is a truly smart man, well-aged and with a ton of engineering and science reputation to boot. Someone who I learned from quite a lot. When it came to the question of subsidies we quickly agreed that there should be no subsidies for Renewable Energy. But then I threw in that the indirect subsidies – i.e. the free backup and network balancing – must be made onerous as well. He looked at me as if horns were growing out of my head. He could not understand why a service that only renewables need needs to be paid by them as otherwise, it’s a subsidy. Lots of explaining to do still.
