The Strait of Hormuz is the world’s most important oil transit chokepoint

A chokepoint it is and no doubt it is important. But for who? North America gets very little out of the Gulf. They have plenty of alternative sources and are also pretty far away. Europe is close and has no homegrown alternatives so Europe cares far more but then again, they have import alternatives not least the US. And then there is Asia. China and some other Asian countries depend utterly on the Persian Gulf so if it is disrupted, they are bound to suffer. Their navies cannot stand up to the US Navy but some of them are not to be trifled with. Conflict looming.
