The Sweet Spot for Building New US LNG Projects Is Fading

In the 20 years I have spent in the LNG business, it has always grown in spurts rather than in a straight line. When the US was supposed to become the largest LNG import market in the world (that was before shale) a series of projects had been built that subsequently needed to find new buyers. Fukushima provided another such burst of activity. So did the China bubble a few years ago and now the Ukraine war bubble. A few new projects get sanctioned, then there are years to get used to the new market size and then it happens again. In those 20 years, LNG has never shrunk.
