“The Techno-Optimist Manifesto” (Marc Andreessen in the energy debate)

My parents have seen WW2. Admittedly, my mum was a baby when it ended but she experienced the decade of hunger and naked need that came after. My parents are much smaller than either us or their own parents which means they were hungry quite often. Their generation had no time and no understanding for utopian ideas. Their experience was that if they did not keep their nose close to the grindstone, they went hungry. They are the war generation. We are Gen X and got those values from our parents. The Boomers gave birth to the Millennials and as the Boomers saw nothing but good times all the time,  we know why Millennials are often so airheaded.
