The “Unpopular Truth”… about Hydro Power

Everyone loves hydropower – or not? When you look at those waters it’s hard not to be awed but even the immense cost and material needed to build those massive projects is not the biggest problem. If you are afraid of CO2 and methane in the air you should think again about hydropower. Stored hydro is a huge reservoir where water, biomatter, and silt are amassed. Once they are in there, anything heavier than the water sinks to the bottom and remains there and degrades producing astronomical amounts of – wait for it – CO2 and methane which then bubble up to the surface and enter the atmosphere. I have no problem with that as I don’t have a problem with those two gases in the air. But if you do, hydropower is not for you. Stop using any electricity.
