The Urban Heat Island Penalty Grows, Especially at Night
It’s a phenomenon known to anyone who lives in a country where it snows in the winter and passes from the countryside to the city and vice versa often. As I did as a kid. Half a century ago I could see that often we had snow where I lived, and no snow in Vienna. We could feel that it was warmer in Vienna when you needed a light jacket in the sticks and none in the city. Cities are darker and the alleys the buildings make store heat much better. The local climate is certainly changed, not by carbon though.
