The US broke global trade rules to try to fix climate change – to finish the job, it has to fix the trade system

Today’s free trade rules are nothing but a race to the bottom. They encourage the displacement of any production of anything into the country that is ready to squeeze its population and environment the most. Quasi-slave labor with total disregard for environmental policy would be best. And such countries are not hard to find. In fact, China has been that country for decades now. Free trade is a good thing among countries with similar structures and values. But bringing those who play foul no matter what one says or does is a recipe for disaster. We will have to cut back on globalism.

Joe Biden’s ‘buy American’ effort with EVs likely violated World Trade Organization rules that the US helped create. The US has an opportunity now to update the system – if it’s willing to take it.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network.
