The recent announcement by the Trump administration to freeze fuel standards for cars and light trucks was met with discouragement by environmentalists and progressives, who believe that it was a major blow to slowing the pace of climate change. Essentially, the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision means that by 2025, instead of an automaker’s fleet average being around 45 miles per gallon (mpg), they will stick around 37 mpg, the 2020 requirement.
