When I was a freshman in the LNG industry, the concept of floating LNG terminals was fresh. We just saw the first converted vessels deliver LNG into a gas grid without the need for a terminal. I was thrilled. That is, I was thrilled until I ran the numbers. And those were ugly as this was very expensive capacity. I have been involved in quite a number of projects since but one rule of the thumb was always “If you have an onshore option, take it – It’s cheaper and better.”
