The long tail of the regulative and legislative hydrocephalus makes energy projects incredibly expensive. Just putting the necessary studies together to get any project to the next phase of funding makes sure that only those with deep pockets are capable of pulling this off while an army of compliance vultures picks every morsel of meat off the bones of even the healthiest and most sensible projects. There is a justified interest in protecting people and nature, but every such interest must be equipped with checks and balances as otherwise, things go overboard. We have blown this up to a monster. As said, only the biggest companies can develop projects – which reliably keeps the entrepreneurs out. The very people those projects are intended to serve get the worst deal out of it all.
