North Stream would have to be rebuilt. The original lines have been contaminated with seawater from the inside, so they most likely cannot be saved. So new steel tubes would have to be lowered onto the seafloor. The compressor stations can certainly be reused which would lower the price tag but North Stream was never a cheap pipeline. It had always assumed very high gas prices in Europe to make a buck and while gas prices in Europe are not low at all, they still lack the upside stability they would need to support the additional financing required for new lines. Let’s not forget that the old lines are not paid for yet. Those who have lost money in this thing might get a bit jittery when asked for more.
