U.S. Natural-Gas Pioneer Struggles in His Second Act

Oh, how short our memories are. Charif Souki had not started out as a builder of liquefaction terminals. He wanted to import LNG into America as the US was poised to be the El Dorado for all LNG suppliers. I remember those maps with more than 60 terminal proposals up and down both coasts – all import. Then shale came and killed pretty much all LNG imports into the US. Souki was fast to turn around on the heels and retrofit his import terminal into an export terminal. But this does not make him a good businessman – more like a one-trick pony.
