Before humans entered the equation in force about 10.000 years ago, the plains of North America were roamed by millions of Bisons and the forests of Europe by almost equally large numbers of Wisents. Those giant beasts produced no less flatulence than the hundreds of thousands of beef we have now. Yes, you read that right. The massive herds of ruminants before man were much larger than all commercial livestock in production today. So they also produced a lot more methane and CO2. Why did the planet not burn then?
