Uniper, gas lobby say Germany must help them keep lights on
The true costs of Renewables and EV’s start to show in Germany and everyone else would be very well advised to watch Germany how it attempts to dodge that bullet. Gas, coal, nuclear and hydro don’t need backup. They are on-demand power sources. Their cost stack is simple. Wind and solar are “I don’t give a dan when consumers need it” power sources. They need backup. So, conventional power does not need backup. Wind and solar do. The cost of backup must hence be added on top of the cost of the original renewable energy. But what if we skipped the wind and solar and used the backup as a primary source? Then we save the money for wind and solar. This is why wind and solar cannot ever be cheaper than conventional power.
