Urban Heat Island Studies – Do Pristine Weather Stations Even Exist?

What’s the use of a pristine station when its data then gets normalized anyhow – which means it gets changed to fit a narrative? They don’t even make a fuss about it. They say they need to normalize data to make it comparable. OK, let’s stick with that for a while. If you must normalize data, then I want access to the raw, unaltered data and I also want to know in great detail what methods you have used to change the data and why. I especially want to know all the assumptions you have put into them and a comprehensive explanation with a model that allows me to change those assumptions. But we don’t get that. What we get is the changed dataset. And we are supposed to take that and everything that derives from it on faith. To me, that’s not data.

Australia’s low population density plus its many weather stations allow many “pristine” station candidates to be examined for studies of Urban Heat Island (UHI) effects.
