US aims to make Russia’s Arctic LNG 2 project ‘dead in the water’, says US official

I am getting a lot of flak for it but I am still not sure if Arctic LNG makes Russia any money at all. We only get the prettied-up set of figures of course and Russian figures have not been on the very transparent and/or reliable side before the war in Ukraine started. Building and running an LNG plant in Yamal has a price, upstream there has a price, and shipping there is pretty much the most expensive on the planet. All this must be held against the prices LNG fetches on the open market. Does not look good to me. But things have been built, and kickbacks have been paid. Bonuses thrown at managers. Maybe that’s all they ever wanted?
