Shipping companies are for-profit companies. If wind propulsion would make any economic sense, they would have done that a long time ago. Chances are that the vagaries of wind are just not any form of a useful way to put a ship forward. When the first steamships turned up, they beat the fastest sailships with ease. Today it is not even a contest. Are you willing to wait 3 months for your iPhone?

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
