That was 40 years ago. I remember my childhood, which was full of predictions of doom. That’s way more than 40 years ago. None of the horrible things we were told to wait for us in the future have materialized. The seas have not risen. The forests have not gone away. We did neither freeze to death nor did we roast. And the monstrous and widely feared Millennium Bug turned out to be a little fruit fly. My generation must indeed be special because we have survived so many calamities, almost all of them without ever noticing anything except the constant drumbeat of those warning us that the end is nigh. Think about what you want but I am relaxed about this one. And others to come.
