Weaponizing Peer Review

People like simple truths and they also like their institutions that tell them what’s good and what’s bad. It has been so since the dawn of time and the often touted revolution of individualism has done nothing to put a dent in that fundamental human drive. Sticking out is what most people fear more than death itself. So, if you capture a process with a certain amount of pedigree to it and abuse it for nefarious aims, it will take a lot for normal people to disavow the process. They will mindlessly believe whatever is thrown at them, in fact, they will fight tooth and nail to defend a process that works to their disadvantage. Any human endeavor is subject to greed. Science is no exception.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
