Why aren’t investors piling in to build new LNG projects?
LNG projects are expensive. They cost a lot of money to build and also take some time until they produce the first drop of LNG. This means that you spend billions and won’t see any earnings for many years to pay those vast sums back. LNG projects are by nature not done on a whim as it takes more than a decade to pay back the monies invested. This also means that those investing in such projects look a little further than the next 6 months and considering that the entire world seems to have found that hydrocarbons must be phased out, it will be hard to unlock money to build them.
