Why Don’t We Cover the Sahara In Solar Panels?
Does anyone here remember the Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity? Yes, I know – in this fast-paced world what happened yesterday is old news. Those two very successful Mars rovers had solar panels. Their missions depended on their capability to generate electricity from the sunshine. One of their biggest problems was Mars dust on their solar panels. It limited the amount of light hitting the panels. In the end, this was the reason why subsequent rovers used another power source. The Earth’s atmosphere is much denser than Mars’s. Much more dust on those panels. And if there is one thing in the Sahara it’s dust and wind. Good luck.
