I joined the gas world with a lawyer’s mind. Thats where I came from and that’s the baggage I brought with me when I joined. I had to negotiate complex contracts so that was useful. But my employer was a gas trading company so I grew into the art of trading commodities in any conceivable way. It’s there where I learned a useful lesson: Hope and belief are two ugly sisters. Many traders clung to those sisters as the only rationale for a deal. But a lawyer wants to know. When I felt belief crawling up on me, I knew I was in trouble.
