Wind and solar are losing ground to gas
In the end, people will go for the thing that works without constant help from the outside. In the case of the gas-renewables connection, it’s even worse for the latter. Because every expansion of flicker energy (thats what wind and solar is) needs a fast backup and the fastest, cheapest, cleanest backup power in the US is gas. Gas can thrive with or without Renewables. But Renewables cannot exist without gas. You could use batteries but then the fiction of cheap renewables goes out the window instantly.
