Winde explains why Western Cape wants to urgently import gas
Saldanha is maybe not the best location for an LNG terminal as this is one of the more protected spots along the South African coast. Someone in Capetown once told me that you can’t even spit out there. Still, this is not the biggest problem facing developers. The big monster is South Africas multiple layers of affirmative action, favoritism, corruption and stifling of business in general. Western Cape is probably the best in class and still, it’s hard. South Africa needs to get kicked very hard, not once but many times so it wakes up. Such a nice country – it’s a shame it goes down such a hard path. LNG would solve a lot of problems very quickly. I hope it gets going now.
